Volunteer Areas
Chaperones
Chaperones are primarily responsible for student safety before, during and after the game. They meet before the game at the Band Room while the students are dressing out. They gather first aid kits, other supplies, and, if needed, towels for wiping bleachers. Once the band is formed up, ready to move to the stadium, chaperones move with them, monitoring progress through the parking lot, alert for traffic and stragglers. In the stands, chaperones spread out around the edges of the band section (marked beforehand with yellow caution tape) to help keep spectators at a safe distance and help band members as needed. After the game, chaperones accompany the band as it marches through the parking lot to the band room.
Equipment and Facility Maintenance
Maintenance volunteers are responsible for the upkeep and repair of band equipment and storage facilities as identified by the band director.
Football Game Concessions
Concessions volunteers prepare and sell food at all home Woodson Varsity Football games.
Hospitality
Hospitality is responsible for preparing food for band members and volunteers at various events throughout the year, as well as coordinating for social events and banquets.
Instrument, Prop and Equipment Loading and Handling
Equipment volunteers are responsible for loading all instruments, props and equipment for travel to marching band away performances. They are also responsible for the movement and staging of all props, instruments and equipment at both home and away performance sites.
Photography
Photographers are responsible for taking pictures and videos of both marching and concert band performances, and posting those videos to the band’s SmugMug account.
Prop Building
Prop builders are responsible for the construction of props as dictated by the band director and drill designer for the show being performed in a given marching band season.
Tag Day Fundraiser
Tag Day volunteers assist in all aspects of the Woodson Band’s largest fundraising activity. Roles include route planning and analysis, donation tabulation, and driving band members on the day of the event.
Truck Drivers and Trailer Haulers
Truck Drivers are responsible for picking up and returning rental trucks, and driving them to all locations required by the marching band.
Trailer Haulers must have a access to a vehicle capable of safely towing the band’s 24 foot/10,000 LB GVWR trailer. They will safely tow the trailer to all locations required by the marching band.
Tunes for Tots Holiday Concert Fundraiser
Tunes for Tots volunteers assist in all aspects of preparation and execution of the Tunes for Tots Holiday Concert, to include ticket sales, costumes and decoration. This concert is held annually in late November/Early December.
Uniforms
The Concert Uniform team is responsible for the care, maintenance, and distribution of all concert uniforms. The volunteers support the band students and director immediately prior to all events in which the concert uniform is worn, ensuring each uniform is worn correctly and adequately fits the student. They also to handle uniform emergencies as they arise.
Marching Uniform volunteers support the students prior to and during all events in which the marching uniform are worn, including fit days, performances, competitions, Tag Day, and other events as required. The volunteers monitor student uniform pickup and return before and after events, ensuring the uniforms are correctly sized for each student and are worn properly, handling issues as they arise.
