Colorguard

Any Woodson HS Student, male or female, is welcome to tryout for a spot in our Colorguard, and no prior experience is necessary! Students with previous dance experience are highly encouraged to consider joining our Colorguard. We usually conduct spring Colorguard clinics and an open audition for the fall show in late April or May.
Colorguard members may be members of a band class but this is not required.
The Colorguard is an auxiliary unit in the band that adds color, pageantry and greatly enhances the visual & general effect to the show with choreographed dance, flag, sabre and rifle routines. All members are held to the same standards and expectations as the marching band students and are considered a part of the band. Colorguard members must attend all after-school marching-band rehearsals, football games, marching band competitions and participate in Tag Day.
Members of the Colorguard may also participate in the Winter Guard.

The Winter Guard usually has open auditions in late November and rehearses typically two or three nights per week from December to April. Our Winter Guard team competes in the Atlantic Indoor Association – North circuit. The Winter Guard show is a choreographed dance, flag, sabre or rifle routine performed to pre-recorded music instead of a live marching band and conducted indoors on basketball gym floors. Performances are conducted at several competitions typically between February thru April culminating at the AIA-North Championships usually the first week of April.
