Car Washes

Car washes are held during the summer in the school parking lot just outside the band room. Students are supervised by chaperones and a parent is in charge of collecting donations from customers. Students should wear clothing that is cool and can get wet! Bring an old towel. Generally speaking, car washes are held on Saturday from 10:00am to 2:00pm and bring in hundreds of dollars in donations.

Scrip

Scrip is a terrific way to help the band raise money to pay for band expenses. Scrip is gift certificates or gift cards that you buy for your favorite stores, restaurants, and service providers – where you shop every day -- and the Band Patrons receive a percent (ranging from 2% to as high as 18% or more) of your card purchase. There is no additional cost to you, and you get the full value of your gift card.
You can purchase scrip gift certificates and cards two ways:
1) Grocery Scrip -- Through the PTSO, at Band Patrons meetings, and at some band events.
2) GL Scrip -- Online, through the Great Lakes (GL) Scrip program.
Click on the Grocery Scrip and GL Scrip tabs above for more information.

Grocery Scrip

Grocery scrip for Giant and Shoppers Food Warehouse may be purchased through the PTSO. Scrip is available in various denominations and is used just like cash at the grocery store. When grocery scrip is purchased, 4% of the value of the certificates is credited to the organization you designate on the scrip purchase form. To designate band, simply check the “Band” box. Grocery scrip may be purchased at Woodson, M, W and F from 9:30 to 12:30, at the entrance across from the crosswalk and the tennis courts at the Kiss and Ride. This entrance has no # yet, but is just down from Entrance #6 on the Whitaker Street side of the school. Order forms may also be faxed (703-503-4697) to the school office with a check sent in with a student for pick-up in the library. Or an order and check may be sent in with a student. Checks should be made out to “WTW/PTSO Scrip Sales” when purchasing from the PTSO. The band Scrip Chair also sells grocery scrip at band patrons meetings. 4% of the value of the purchase will automatically be credited to the band. When buying grocery scrip through the band patrons, checks should be made out to “WT Woodson Band Patrons.”

GL Scrip

What is Scrip?
Great Lakes Scrip enables participants to purchase gift cards and gift certificates for everyday expenses like food, clothing, and entertainment. The band earns a percentage of each dollar of scrip purchased; the percentages vary according to the retailer. Hundreds of cards are available -- including Chipotle, Noodles & Company, Kohl's, Sears, iTunes, Best Buy, and Walgreens.
Placing an order
Place your orders online at www.shopwithscrip.com . Just create an account (all you need is an e-mail address) and associate your account with our organization, the W.T. Woodson Cavalier Band Patrons, Inc., by entering our Enrollment Code: 787DC8EF2145. You can shop anytime, but we generally submit our group order monthly, on the first Tuesday of the month, to allow for delivery of the cards for distribution at the Band Patrons' meeting (generally the third Thursday of each month during the school year). We can process your order, though, outside of our normal cycle if it's large enough to cover the shipping costs, and will make arrangements to get the cards to you as soon as possible. Many cards are eligible for "reload" (like AMC Theaters, CVS, Dominos, and Starbucks), which we can process almost immediately. Once you receive a confirmation e-mail, you can re-use your card. In addition, "ScripNow!" e-certificates (including 17 brands like Amazon, Home Depot, and Land's End ) are available immediately. Just sign up for the PrestoPay option (see more information below), and once your order goes through, the e-certificates are e-mailed to you (or your gift recipient if you indicate that). You can print the certificates to take to a store, or use the code for online purchases.
Paying for scrip
You have two payment options:
1) Pay by check, right after you submit your order. Submit your check to our Scrip Coordinator (Sue Mickelson) after you submit your order.
2) Pay by PrestoPay, online, at the time you place your order. Once you have successfully enrolled and verified your bank account information, the amount will be withdrawn from your bank account for the amount of your order, plus a small convenience fee of $0.39.
Contact our Scrip Coordinator, Sue Mickelson, with any questions at smickelson0961@yahoo.com.

Tag Day

Tag Day is a one-day-a-year fund raising event. Tag Day is a door-to-door canvassing of homes in our school district to solicit monetary donations for the band program. It is our biggest fund raiser of the year. Every band member is required to participate B exemptions must be granted by the director. Tag Day is held on a Saturday, usually from 8:00am to 4:00pm with a break for lunch. Students are assigned specific neighborhoods to canvass and will travel in groups. No one is permitted to canvass alone. A band parent in a car accompanies each group. Students wear their band uniforms. The community knows about, understands, and expects Tag Day each year and people are very supportive and very generous.

Tiny Tots

The Tiny Tots concerts are typically held during the first week of December.  The concerts are held during school hours in the Woodson Auditorium or the gymnasium. Band members perform traditional holiday favorites for pre-school children. The profits from the ticket sales go to the Band Patrons.

Vehicle Donation Program

The Woodson Band Patrons have teamed with the Fairfax Host Lions Club to repair and sell donated vehicles. Vehicles that are in good condition and repairable for sale will allow the Donor to receive an IRS Donation Receipt. The Receipt qualifies the donation for a charitable tax deduction of up to the full fair market "Blue Book" value of the vehicle per the IRS regulations. The Lions Club generously shares profits from the sale 50/50 with the Woodson Band.  The Vehicle Donation Program benefits both the donor and the Band.  Encourage friends and neighbors to donate vehicles and support the Woodson Band!
If you have a vehicle to donate, please contact Stefan Schwarz at (703)503-6996 or mailto:wtwbandchaperones@gmail.com
