Car washes are held during the summer in the school parking lot just outside the band room. Students are supervised by chaperones and a parent is in charge of collecting donations from customers. Students should wear clothing that is cool and can get wet! Bring an old towel. Generally speaking, car washes are held on Saturday from 10:00am to 2:00pm and bring in hundreds of dollars in donations. |

Scrip is a terrific way to help the band raise money to pay for band expenses.
Scrip is gift certificates or gift cards that you buy for your favorite stores,
restaurants, and service providers – where you shop every day -- and the Band
Patrons receive a percent (ranging from 2% to as high as 18% or more) of your
card purchase. There is no additional cost to you, and you get the full value
of your gift card. |
Grocery scrip for Giant and Shoppers Food Warehouse may be purchased through the PTSO. Scrip is available in various denominations and is used just like cash at the grocery store. When grocery scrip is purchased, 4% of the value of the certificates is credited to the organization you designate on the scrip purchase form. To designate band, simply check the “Band” box. Grocery scrip may be purchased at Woodson, M, W and F from 9:30 to 12:30, at the entrance across from the crosswalk and the tennis courts at the Kiss and Ride. This entrance has no # yet, but is just down from Entrance #6 on the Whitaker Street side of the school. Order forms may also be faxed (703-503-4697) to the school office with a check sent in with a student for pick-up in the library. Or an order and check may be sent in with a student. Checks should be made out to “WTW/PTSO Scrip Sales” when purchasing from the PTSO. The band Scrip Chair also sells grocery scrip at band patrons meetings. 4% of the value of the purchase will automatically be credited to the band. When buying grocery scrip through the band patrons, checks should be made out to “WT Woodson Band Patrons.” |

Tag Day is a one-day-a-year fund raising event. Tag Day is a door-to-door canvassing of homes in our school district to solicit monetary donations for the band program. It is our biggest fund raiser of the year. Every band member is required to participate B exemptions must be granted by the director. Tag Day is held on a Saturday, usually from 8:00am to 4:00pm with a break for lunch. Students are assigned specific neighborhoods to canvass and will travel in groups. No one is permitted to canvass alone. A band parent in a car accompanies each group. Students wear their band uniforms. The community knows about, understands, and expects Tag Day each year and people are very supportive and very generous. |
The Tiny Tots concerts are typically held during the first week of December. The concerts are held during school hours in the Woodson Auditorium or the gymnasium. The Woodson Band Patrons have teamed with the Fairfax Host Lions Club
to repair and sell donated vehicles. Vehicles that are in good
condition and repairable for sale will allow the Donor to receive an
IRS Donation Receipt. The Receipt qualifies the donation for a
charitable tax deduction of up to the full fair market "Blue Book"
value of the vehicle per the IRS regulations. The Lions Club
generously shares profits from the sale 50/50 with the Woodson Band.
The Vehicle Donation Program benefits both the donor and the Band.
Encourage friends and neighbors to donate vehicles and support the
Woodson Band! |
